Objectives PDF Print E-mail

Parks & Benefits will result in a network of certified Charter Parks around the Baltic Sea, new nature tourism products and enlarged commitment of citizens and tourism entrepreneurs to the Charter and their protected Parks. The workload is grouped into three major work packages. A selection of important activities and outputs is given in the following:

1 Communication & Information

  • Increasing awareness of, and support for, the protected areas of the Baltic Sea Region as fundamental part of its heritage
  • Promotion and marketing for Baltic Sea Region Charter Parks and nature tourism products
  • Communicating the values and benefits of Protected Areas in the field of tourism to stakeholder groups

2 Baltic Sea Region network of protected areas and regions & Sustainable management of natural resources

  • Joint implementation of the European Charter, exchange of
    experience and expertise
  • Identification and development of eco- tourism products, in
    line with a Baltic Sea Region quality standard
  • Joint development of a socio-economic Benefit monitor
  • Developing a joint guideline how to establish public-private partnerships,
    how to involve tourism businesses and stakeholders

3 Implementation of European visitor management standard, balancing nature protection and economic utilization

  • Comparative investigations on carrying capacities, visitor management methods, transportation and accessibility
  • Action plans for visitor monitoring and management, low impact transport systems and accessibility
  • Improvement of service quality and staff education
  • Master guide for innovative park-management solutions

Parks & Benefits - concluded successfully

Dear friends and supporters of the Parks & Benefits project,

The project “Parks & Benefits” which has ended officially on 24 January 2012 introduced and strengthened sustainable nature tourism approaches in the Baltic Sea Region and communicates the mutual benefits to protected areas and to their surrounding regions for regional development and sustained natural development. In close and trustful cooperation the partnership has achieved the following results:
